“I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, ‘Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.’” –Revelation 21:3-4
In this book, Revelation, John has been sharing the prophecy the Lord gave him regarding the future of all things. In the prophecy, there is a lot of destruction, despair, and death. But, there is also life and hope. There is coming a time when God will be among His people AND “there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are GONE FOREVER.” Through John’s vision, we aren’t told when that day is coming, but we are assured that it is coming!
Growing up, we used to sing songs that reminded us of that coming day, I.e. “I’ll Fly Away” “When the Roll is Called up Yonder” Sweet Beulah Land” etc. Even a majority of secular stories and movies helped remind us of that day because they had a happy ending. Not so much anymore. Whether in the church or outside the church, I find fewer and fewer things reminding me of that day. Without the reminders, it’s too easy to forget, too easy to get discouraged, too easy to lose hope. So, I must remind myself and we must remind each other!
This life, this circumstance, this trouble, this pandemic is not all there is. God has not left, but is here comforting, helping, working, preparing, drawing (to Himself), etc. God is leading us through the difficulties to a place, a day.
That day we will experience God more personally and deeply than we ever have before. (Now, we see through a glass dimly, but then face to face.) That day, God himself will wipe away every tear from our eyes. That day there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things will be GONE FOREVER.
Hang on, that day is coming and will not delay. God is getting us there. Stay close, let Him lead. He is near and He is working. He is getting us ready for that day!
Prayer:
Dad, why is it so hard to remember that there is more to this life than meets the eye? Why do I forget so easily? Thank you for hanging on to me and bearing with me. Thank you for loving me and reminding me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to remind myself and others that day is coming. “Come quickly, Lord Jesus!”
Thank you, Jesus!
